Chante Alouette,
a secluded self-contained 19th Century farm house situated north of
the Dordogne. Rooms to sleep up to 10 persons, with Swimming pool
& well maintained garden.

Chante
Alouette is situated at the end of a country lane about
500 metres from the nearest house and overlooks a valley and the
wooded hills on the opposite side. An occasional car can be seen
but rarely heard from the lane on the other side of the river. The
only other sounds come from the birds and the cows in the surrounding
fields. Chante Alouette meaning singing lark, was built in the late
19th century and is constructed of stone with very thick walls,
which help keep the house cool in the summer.

The House is comfortably furnished with lots of original features,
beams, wooden floors upstairs and a stone floor in the sitting
room. It is attached to a very big barn, with another large
barn at right angles to this.
The Accommodation consists of a large sitting\dining
room with a big open fireplace which works very well. The
kitchen is very well equipped with cooker, dishwasher, microwave,
fridge, magimix etc. The original bread oven is in the kitchen,
but hasn’t been used for a long time! There is a ‘beer & wine
fridge’ in the utility room.
Also on the ground floor is a double (twin bedded) bedroom,
large shower room, and utitility room with w.c., washing
machine
and tumble dryer. Upstairs there
are four bedrooms, two with twin beds, one 5ft double and
one King Size bed. There is a second bathroom with shower
and w.c. All the bedrooms have lovely views over the garden
and surrounding countryside and are very comfortably furnished.
Electric central heating has been recently installed throughout.
The Garden which surrounds the house is
kept in very good order by our caretaker who is ‘on
call’
if you have any problems, (his wife speaks a little English).
There is a large table with benches and chairs under a chestnut
tree, where in summer provides very welcome shade at lunchtime.
There is a good supply of sun beds and chairs around the Swimming
pool (10m x 5m) which can be found at the end
of the second barn. There is a table tennis table in the
barn
and a barbeque. It is surrounded
by paving and has an ‘abri’ under which one can
sit to get out of the sun. There is a large grass area to
the side of the pool. The pool is fenced. |

The Village of Busseroles is about a
kilometre from the house, It is a very
small quiet village which has a very good bakery,
a small supermarket, butcher and bar. All your daily requirements
can be obtained in the village. The town of Piegut is about
eight kilometres
away and has a larger supermarket, pharmacy and any other
shop you may need. There is also an extremely good market
on Wednesdays, but be warned that it is worth getting there
early as it gets very crowded in the summer. Angouleme,
Perigeux and Limoges are all within easy reach for ‘serious’
shoppers. There are various farms from which foie gras,
ducks and chickens can be bought.
Lots of very good restaurants can be found in the locality.
There is a folder in the house which contains other guests’
recommendations. Tenants are asked to add their favourites
to this file.

The
Region is the Perigord Vert, the
very northern most tip of the Dordogne and therefore away from the
main tourist areas, but still within easy reach of the regions Famous
Towns, Caves, Chateaux etc. The famous wine producing regions of Bordeaux
just 1.5 hours away and easily accessible with Cognac only about an
1 hour away.
There is a tennis court in the village which
can be hired by the hour. The bookings can be done at the Reception
caravan in the campsite by the tennis court. If there is no one
at the campsite, someone in the shop or bar will be able to tell
you where to go! there is also a large open air swimming lake which
is open to the public.
Canoes can be hired in Montbron and Brantome.
This is great fun and a good way to see the countryside and its
lovely bird population.
To Fly: Limoges is the nearest airport (Ryanair
from Stanstead ) and is about one hour from Chante Aloutte.
Driving takes about 7 hours from Calais on
the motorways.
Prices to include Electricity and local telephone
calls. Any other calls will be deducted from the breakage deposit
